Disclosure Policy~

disclosure policy As paid by blogging services like Reviewme and PayPerPost, increasing day by day, we sometimes might wonder whether a blogger is actually receiving payment for certain content. Their opinion on certain topics might differ just because the they were being sponsored to post it. This is where Disclosure Policy comes in handy.

Why disclose?

By disclosing the purpose of a blog, bloggers are letting readers know more about the information they’ll be reviewing. Bloggers retain the freedom to write original content, as well as select which advertisers they will represent in exchange for gifts or money. Any ethical concerns will remain where they’ve always been - on the individual level. Because it is a blogger’s freedom to select which topics will bring them payment, he/she remains responsible for his/her own reputation.

I think this is a great idea. Without disclosing the purpose of a blog or a post, readers will felt being cheated if they found out that the post is actually a sponsored post. This seriously affects the reputation of a blog. I’ve seen some blogs posting contents without disclosing that they were being paid for posting it. I only realized those are paid contents when I saw those topics listed in PayPerPost open opportunities list. That is not ethical at all, doesn’t it?

5 New Features in Gmail~

gmailAs I was replying my mails, I noticed that there are some changes in the interface. Google had just launched 5 new features on Gmail. You might even not notice the changes as they were hardly noticeable.

google-reply-button.PNGFirstly, its the new top reply button. No more scrolling to the bottom of a long message to find the “Reply” link. Now there’s a Reply button right on top, along with a lot of other options under the little dropdown arrow. Hmm.. What’s the difference between Report phishing and Report Spam then?

Embarassment-reducing new message notifications

Ever replied to a message only to find out that someone sent a better, smarter reply right before you? Now, if someone sends a reply while you’re in the middle of reading a conversation (or replying to it), you’ll get a notification that a new message has arrived. Click “update conversation” to see what you’ve missed. You can actually view updates that occurred without refreshing the site. (that’s what Gmail does right?)

Review Me Is Now Launched!~

ReviewMe is a site where they pay bloggers to write reviews on some particular products and services on their sites. This is a newly launched advertisement site where there are some similarity with Payperpost concept. While normally you get paid around $5 - $10 with payperpost, ReviewMe will pay you $20.00 to $200.00 for each completed review that you post on your site. How great is that?

Now don’t get me wrong, you won’t get forced to write reviews on all the products though. When your site is approved, it will be entered into the marketplace where advertisers will purchase reviews from you. You will decide to accept the review or not. Once you posted the review on your site, you will get paid. That’s it!

Getting Relevant Google Adsense Ads~

adsenseGoogle Adsense is popular for showing ads relevant to the site content. But sometimes it fails to do so where you will get some other ads which are differ to your content. For my site as example, sometimes I get ads like US Army, Who’s the next Pope and other ads that I don’t even know why is showed in my site. My NBA season post is no longer in the main page but still I get a lot of NBA and basketball ads instead of others.

So how do we get relevant ads then? There is a method called Section Targeting. All we need to do is by adding a special HTML comment tags into our code. These tags will mark the beginning and end of whichever section(s) you’d like to emphasize or de-emphasize for ad targeting. By doing this, you will tell the Google Adsense bot to focus on your content and not your domain name, website’s title or description.
The HTML tags to emphasize a page section take the following format:

Flushed Away~

flushedaway_posterbig.jpgFew days ago, Shin and I went to watch this cartoon, Flushed Away. The story is about a pet mouse named Roddy St. James who lived in a rich family, being flushed out from his home by another filthy sewer rat named Sid. Roddy was trying to fool Sid of getting into the toilet bowl (which he lied to him as a Jacuzzi) but he was the one who flushed away into the bustling world down below. Underground, Roddy discovers a vast metropolis, where he meets Rita, a street-wise rat who is on a mission of her own. If Roddy is going to get home, he and Rita will need to escape the clutches of the villainous Toad, who royally despises all rodents and has dispatched two hapless henchrats, Spike and Whitey, as well as his cousin–that dreaded mercenary, Le Frog–to see that Roddy and Rita are iced, literally.

The cartoon is not bad actually. The songs are nice and its really funny. But if you really want to watch this movie, don’t watch the trailer because most of the funny stuffs are shown in the trailer. This makes the movie just a bit dull for me. Luckily the storyline is not that boring and there are some other funny stuffs that you won’t see from the trailer.

Apple releases MacBook with Core 2 Duo~

indexataglance20061108.jpgApple has officially gone ahead and updated its MacBook line with Core 2 Duo processors, offering up to 25% more speed, and increasing battery life with efficiency updates in the new Core 2 Duo chips. This is following the MacBook Pro update, which made that 39% faster, and also gave it longer battery life. The MacBook lineup features 2 white designs, and a black version which, for $200, upgrades the hard drive from 80GB to 120GB.

Optionally, a new 200GB 4200RPM SATA disk is available. The size and weight of this new MacBook remain the same as does the battery, apparently. The 2.33GHz C2D proc is still only available on the MacBook Pro. So besides the new processor, nothing else has really changed.

Autopinger for Your Blog~

autopingerEver felt frustrated of wasting a lot of time trying to ping a few ping services sites like Technorati? Autopinger is a free service to help you ping your blogs and podcasts to most available blog/podcast search engines and aggregators remotely and automatically.

It is very easy to use this service as you just need to type in your blog address and click the Start Ping button below. There are a lot of services provided which you can choose between English services or Non-English services. Autopinger had added the new Google Blogsearch into their ping list which makes them the first site to do so. After pinging, just bookmark the address and open the link everytime you post something new. Now that’s easy!

Cigarettes and Charity?~

dsc00954.JPG

A week ago, I was in KL with my friend. His boss bought him some cigarettes from China which he was trying out. Just read the lines on the photo above. In English, it means that you’ll donate some money to some charity with each purchase of a box of cigarettes. How great is that?
