Earth Hour 2008 – 8PM March 29~

earth-hour-full.jpgIt started with a question: How can we inspire people to take action on climate change?

The answer: Ask the people of Sydney to turn off their lights for one hour.

About Earth Hour On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world. If the greenhouse reduction achieved in the Sydney CBD during Earth Hour was sustained for a year, it would be equivalent to taking 48,616 cars off the road for a year.

With Sydney icons like the Harbour Bridge and Opera House turning their lights off, and unique events such as weddings by candlelight, the world took notice. Inspired by the collective effort of millions of Sydneysiders, many major global cities are joining Earth Hour in 2008, turning a symbolic event into a global movement.

On 8PM March 29th, 24 global cities will participate in the Earth Hour, with over 13,000 businesses joining in, to turn off the lights. Imagine all 24 cities will be in darkness for 1 hour, only lid by candles by everyone.

Defragment XP System Files (Page File and Registry)

In order to increase your system performance, a regular defragment task for all the drives should be performed. This is to prevent your drive from fragmented. But how do you defragment the system files then? The problem is that Windows XP doesn’t allow certain system files to be defragmented due to the files are open for exclusive access. Thus, standard defragmentation programs can neither show you how fragmented your paging files or Registry hives are, nor defragment them. System files fragmentation can lead to performance degradation of your system.

Here’s a utility called PageDefrag from Sysinternals (Microsoft) that provides you the ability for you to see how fragmented your paging files and Registry hives are, and to defragment them.

Once you launched the application, it will show you a list of system files and the number of fragments each file is in. If you feel that there are too many fragments in those files, just click on the “defragment at next boot” radio button. You can select defragment every boot if you want to, but I don’t really recommend that. Unless you only switch off your system once every month

Next, restart your computer, and you will be prompted to this BSOD blue screen which stating that the defragment process for system files is running.

Whoa la!~ Defragmentation is now completed. You may continue with your work now.

DanceJam Now Open Beta~

headerasset.pngEver tired of watching YouTube? DanceJam is a bit different from YouTube where it is only for dance videos. DanceJam is now launched into open beta after several months of private testing.

Here, you get to watch dance battles where users dance off against each other, and you can cast your vote for the best dance videos. I watched a few of the dance battles, some of the dance moves are really awesome! But there were some who are competing with different standards though   DanceJam also offers general dance videos, including locally uploaded content and videos from external sites such YouTube.

DanceJam was founded by M.C. Hammer (Can’t touch this! That was like.. err.. a decade ago? ), and Geoffrey Arone and Anthony Young from Flock. Get over and watch the videos, maybe you can learn some dance moves!

Here’s a video that I find the moves quite entertaining.

Watch it here.
