Strange Google Ads~

Have you ever seen some strange Google Ads appeared in your blog? I’ve just seen one that is quite pointless because you have to type in which type of ads you would like to see. Don’t get me? See this.

This is the link unit ads that is shown under my header. The fact is, who will type in which type of ads they would like to see in that box? Hmm.. Maybe someone is curious enough will do that. Will you? I think these types of ads will show up if Google can’t find any relevant ads to show on your site. That’s what happening here I think.

Here’s another cute ads that I saw in my sidebar ads.

Maybe I should say “creative” rather than describing this ads as “cute”. I’m sure many will click on this ads due to curiosity.

Adsense Referrals Beta~

Adsense is launching a new referral program called Adsense Referrals which is still under beta. The program is basically based on CPA (Cost Per Action) clicks which is totally different from normal CPC (Cost Per Click) ads.

How CPA Works?

You get to select which kind of ads to show on your website, based on the categories your site is in.

Users who clicked on the ads will need to complete an action defined by your advertisers, such as a sale or sign up.

Finally, you will get paid whenever the user completes the action.

Because these actions are often more involved than a simple click or impression, advertisers pay more for these referrals, which can translate into higher earnings for your site. Further, you’ll see the expected earnings and advertiser performance ahead of time, so you can make the best decisions about what to refer. You can also choose to target the keywords that will ensure you get the highest-paying referrals for your ad space.

My Opinion

CPA ads are already around since ages ago but normally publishers go for CPC ads because not many users will complete the action required by the advertisers while publishers will get paid as soon as users click on the ads for CPC ads. However, those who succeed in CPA ads are actually big earners compared to CPC ads publishers because CPA offers high payouts for each action completed. Commission Junction and Clickbank are one of the top programs that are based on CPA ads. I’ve seen ads that have payout as high as $100 for each action taken! We’ll see how much these ads from Google perform then.

My First Google Adsense Check~

As I was congratulating Cely for her first Google Adsense Check on her blog, my housemate came into my room and handed me a letter from New York. Yippie! It’s my first Google Adsense Check! Finally, it arrived after waiting for months for it!

The amount is only $131.11 but it feels great! Finally something to award myself with this blog~

It is raining season lately and my postbox was wet. This causes the letter to be wet and the check is a little bit crumpled. I guess it is still ok as only a small part of the check was wet. Now who wanna let me know what is the procedures of banking in an international check?

Getting Relevant Google Adsense Ads~

Google Adsense is popular for showing ads relevant to the site content. But sometimes it fails to do so where you will get some other ads which are differ to your content. For my site as example, sometimes I get ads like US Army, Who’s the next Pope and other ads that I don’t even know why is showed in my site. My NBA season post is no longer in the main page but still I get a lot of NBA and basketball ads instead of others.

So how do we get relevant ads then? There is a method called Section Targeting. All we need to do is by adding a special HTML comment tags into our code. These tags will mark the beginning and end of whichever section(s) you’d like to emphasize or de-emphasize for ad targeting. By doing this, you will tell the Google Adsense bot to focus on your content and not your domain name, website’s title or description.
The HTML tags to emphasize a page section take the following format:

This is the text of your web page. Most of your content resides here.

For wordpress users, you should put this code in the main index template.

You can use section targeting to make suggestions about as many sections of a page as you like. However, please be aware that Google can’t guarantee the results, and that it may take up to 2 weeks before the crawlers take into account any changes you’ve made to your site.

I’ve just tried this by inserting the tags into my site. Did anyone try this before? Did you get more relevant ads after using this methods? But of course, you need to have at least some good contents in your site in order to get the relevant ads.

My Adsense October Earnings~

This is my first time posting my earnings on Adsense, or should I say its my highest earnings for a month so far? Haha!

Last month m3nghua.com had 3048 page impressions which received 61 clicks (only.. sob sob). The total earnings including Adsense for search is $9.61. Although its such a small amount but I quite happy with the progress. The rectangular ads under each single post received the highest clicks of all which it did help a lot. This shows that the ads under a post attracts more attention from visitors. Why didn’t I try it before this? Sigh.. I really hope I can get my Adsense cheque as soon as possible. My first one though.. I haven’t receive a single cheque from Adsense after blogging for more than 1 year. Big failure I guess..

Google Adsense Mail~

After waiting for almost 1 month, Google Adsense mail finally arrived. It is not my paycheck though but its just a mail containing a pin code. Once adsense users reached $50 balance for the first time, Google will send the user a mail containing a pin code to validate their address.

Just a postcard alike mail..

The content with the pin code. After receiving the pin code, users will need to enter the pin number in their adsense account page. My adsense earning is growing extremely slow lately. I wonder when will I reach $100 for my first paycheck. Sigh…
