Nikon just launched a new DSLR, the D7000. This new DSLR is the replacement model of the old Nikon D90. As an owner of the late Nikon D90 like myself, this new Nikon D7000 is something which worth looking for. Here’s the key features of the new DSLR from Nikon.

• 1080p HD video recording with mic jack for external microphone
• ISO 100-6400 (plus H1 and H2 equivalent to ISO 12,800/25,600)
• 39-point AF system with 3D tracking
• 2016 pixel metering sensor
• Scene Recognition System (see 2016 pixel sensor, above) aids metering + focus accuracy
• Twin SD card slots
• 3.0 inch 921k dot LCD screen
• New Live View/movie shooting switch
• Full-time AF in Live View/movie modes
• Up to 6fps continuous shooting
• Lockable shooting mode dial
• Built-in intervalometer
• Electronic virtual horizon
• Shutter tested to 150K actuations

The D7000 combines the elements for D90 and the higher end model D300S. The new CMOS sensor and metering sensor are more advanced than D300S. ISO can be boosted up to 25600 (which I doubt you can actually shoot photos with it in low noise level) and 39 AF points compared to the D90′s 11 AF points. Auto Focus is now available in video mode thanks to the AF-F system. Here’s a few videos on the D7000 in action.

The Nikon D7000 costs around 1100 USD (body only), which is around RM3.5K hopefully. If you are a D90 or below users, this should be something worth upgrade for. Gosh, I’m gonna be broke very very soon if I continue to upgrade all these gadgets!

My friend and I went to the Nikon Show exhibition in Mid Valley last weekend. This is one of the yearly exhibition organized by Nikon. There were a lot of Nikon products and also the lens exhibited during the event. They even have a service counter to service your DSLR for free!

It seems like having a DSLR is already a stylish trend for youngsters these days. Occasionally during weekends or public holidays, you can see a bunch of people carrying their bulky cameras shooting everything that comes into their sights in the middle of the city. Well guess what? I, too bought a DSLR camera few months ago. It is one of the latest DSLR from Nikon – Nikon D90. I have been thinking of having one quite some time ago until I finally decided to get one recently.

Why Nikon? Because it’s the best! Just joking though. I’ve been asking opinions from my friends who owns DSLR cameras and most of the feedbacks points me to Nikon instead of Canon. A friend of mine even changed his whole gear and all his lens from Canon to Nikon ones just because he felt that Nikon is much better. I believe this is just up to the user experience of determining which brand suits them more though.

So why D90? All because it’s a minor step down from D300. There are a few similarity with the higher level D300:-

• Same 12.3 Megapixels image sensor
• 3.0-inch 920,000 pixel (VGA x 3 colors) TFT-LCD
• Live View
• Video recording (D90 is much better with HD video recording)

Other than that, D90 comes with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR (vibration reduction) kit lens. This lens is equivalent to 5.8x optical zoom which is quite enough for most daily use (although I just got myself a longer lense… will post up next time).

Is this DSLR camera really good? In my opinion, it feels great having this camera. It’s been fun shooting photos around with it and I’m learning more and more about photography every time I use it. This camera is quite pricey but it worth every penny of it.. haha..
