OpenDNS – Makes Your Internet Work Better~

open dnsHave you ever heard of OpenDNS? OpenDNS helps you navigate the Internet in a safer, faster, smarter and more reliable way. The service is free and requires nothing to download. OpenDNS doesn’t replace your existing Internet connection, it just makes it better.

OpenDNS provides you a safer, faster, and smarter way to surf the Internet. What’s the meaning of safer, faster and smarter anyway?

Safer

By using OpenDNS DNS servers, it can identify and stop sites trying to phish (steal) your personal information or money. The OpenDNS phishing protection works with all operating systems and browsers, complementing any other security measures already in use. You will be protected from surfing to these phishing sites as they are blocked from accessing them.

Faster

OpenDNS is so fast because they run some of the largest DNS caches around and do it on our own high-performance network. They caches almost all DNS servers around the world where you can access websites without going through a few DNS servers. That will make your surfing experience blazing fast.

Smarter

OpenDNS automatically connects you to the website even if you have spelling mistakes on the URL you typed in. For example, you typed m3nghua.cmo instead of m3nghua.com, your browser will still take you there. :)

Other than that, OpenDNS had just launched a new feature, which is the shortcut feature. You can create shortcuts that let you type something easy-to-remember into your address bar and leap straight where you want to go. Paul had written a post about the new feature on OpenDNS. To set these shortcuts, simply login to your account and setup them. This is an example of what you will get.

And yet, OpenDNS provides a reliable DNS server to provide you the connectivity and speed to the Internet. Thinking of using it? All you need to do, is to change your DNS server address to their address which are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. That’s it. Changing the DNS server address at your router or modem will make your whole network to use OpenDNS straight away. Confused? Read the tutorial here.

My Opinion

I’ve been using OpenDNS for quite some time and it seems that surfing the Internet is a bit faster than using TMnet DNS servers. But still, will our internet connection speed affected because of the DNS server located in the US? You know we had so much problem on the connection to international links, right? :P

Have you tried using it? Give us your opinion will ya? :)

been using them for a long time now. They have a new service out too to do dynamic updates.

Too bad they don’t have a mirror in Asia yet, the speeds suffer 🙁
