Skyfire – Best Mobile Web Browser?~

logo1.gifHave you ever browse to any websites on your phone, and found that you cannot load the site due to the incompatibility of your phone’s web browser? Websites that used a lot of flash plugins especially like youtube.com normally cannot be loaded via a normal phone web browser due to the flash / java version not supported by the browsers.

skyfire.PNGTry out Skyfire today. Skyfire is a free, downloadable mobile web browser that allows you to experience the internet on your phone exactly like on your PC. Now, you can use the full web from your mobile phone with unprecedented speed and simplicity – without the typical restrictions and limitations that current ‘mobile web’ efforts offer. This means you can open up websites like youtube, myspace, facebook just the same like what you see on your PC. Why? This is because Skyfire supports almost all plugins that these websites requires. Isn’t that fun?

Some may argue that new versions of Opera browser works like Skyfre too. But in my own experience, Opera will go very sluggish once flash components are loaded, which is a no no for me. 🙂

How to get Skyfire?

Currently Skyfire is still under open BETA versions and only available for people who lives in US only. However, there are tricks for you to get a hold on it for those outside of US.

First, you need to sign up for open BETA and register. You will need to key in your email and your US mobile phone number. Don’t worry though, I’ve tried keying in all sorts of number just to fill the column and it actually works! Then select the type of phone that you have.

Once you successfully registered, you will receive an email with the details just like below.

Select Download to PC and you will be redirected to another page.

step2.jpg

Key in your password same as the one you registered and submit. You will be taken to a page with the download link.

Download the file to your PC and transfer it to your mobile phone. You can install the application just by clicking on the file in your phone. There you have it, Skyfire on your phone! 🙂

This method only works for PDA phone. For symbian phones, I guess you will have to try it yourselves since I’m not sure whether u can download it into your phone and install it. But I guess the steps are just the same though~ 😆

The sad part is, Skyfire does not support VGA screen phones yet. So if you are using phones like HTC Touch Diamond, forget about getting it now because once you launch the application, you’ll only see the browser appears in half of your screen.  😥

Have you been using Skyfire? Tell us about your experience will ya?

Mobile phones are selling at 4 – 1 over all computer systems. Internet Use over mobile phones is expected to pass computer based internet connections within the next 12 months.

Jump on the bandwagon while the mobile internet is still in its infancy, alot of money to be made here. Pick up a .Mobi domain name while you still can. Will be a great investment.

what phone are you using? The new beta version is out and VGA is supported. However, the resolution sucks for VGA screen. Yet, I don’t see any difference with normal browser in terms of speed. Disappointed.

Mobile web-browsing programs such as Skyfire are getting better and better, in that they are making it so that the most important parts of pages are the ones that are most easily accessible. I would say that browsing on small phone screens will not be able to catch up to the level of browsing that is able to be done on full screen monitors, but improvements in mobile browsing make a large difference for those that use it regularly.

I think it’s the only browser that supports full Youtube viewing. It’s a little buggy for me, still prefer the Opera 9.5 although I’ve been trying to get it to work with my Omnia.
